The Anxious Immigrant

Outside the window, the gears of civilization keep grinding, focused on the big themes that move the currents of humanity, maintaining the hegemony. But inside groups, families, and, deeper yet, inside the individual, chaos reigns. Unimaginable pain, anxieties, depression, and distress. It is unnerving to observe our collective inhumanity, oblivious to each other’s anguish, ignorant of the individual in a sea of individuals. You are ultimately alone to carry your burden. Alone to fight your demons and deepest regrets. Alone to survive the intrusive reminiscences of the past and crushing uncertainties of the future. Alone. That is, until you find the strength to rise up and open up your heart to those who care about you, to engage in the narrative and attach goals to your existence—but this is wishful thinking.
